Τι σήμερα, τι αύριο, τι τώρα (What today, What tomorrow. What Now) -- 1952

Probably the most famous version of this song was recorded by Μαρίκα Νίνου (Marika Ninou), with her characteristic piercing plaintive style, along with Τσιτσάνης Βασίλης. But, this is an especially compelling contemporary rendition performed by η ρεμπέτισσα της Θεσσαλονίκης, the Rembetissa of Thessaloniki, as Μαριώ (Mario) [Μαρία Κωνσταντινίδου (Maria Konstadinidou)] is sometimes known.

The song's rhetorical refrain, what today, what tomorrow, what now? Engages one side a debate about a separation and whether it could have been avoided and perhaps can be undone. This provides a rich scope for interpretation. Marika's version being one of rumination and ambivalence while Mario's being one of passion and bitterness.
