Κάποια μέρα θα γυρίσει κι ο τροχός (Someday the wheel will turn) -- 1951

The piece, sung by Fotis Polimeris (Φωτης Πολυμέρης), was featured in the movie: Εκείνες Που δεν Πρέπει ν' Αγαπούν (Those Who Don't Need to Love), and is representative of the Archonto Rebetiko, aρχοντορεμπέτικο, style, which fused elements of the Rebetico with other elements of Greek popular music along with popular European and American elements. It was seen as an up market or refined form of the Rebetico, suitable for respectable bars and clubs, and might sound to many now as inauthentic. But it had a major effect on Greek music and in it one can see the virtues and vices of it in much of the Laiki music that would follow, a style for which the Archonto Rebetiko was a direct antecedent.

Κάποια μέρα θα γυρίσει κι ο τροχός (Someday the wheel will turn) -- 1951

Don't look at my delinquency
Don't look at my poverty
Some day, some day
The wheel will turn.

Friends have renounced me
And left me all alone
Some day, some day
The wheel will turn

What is the whole world
But difficulty?
Some day, that treacherous
Wheel will turn.
